Picture

New to this fully revised edition is a Foreword by Mark Scott, an updated glossary of handy words new dads need to know (and some they don’t), a new and improved list of films to watch (and those to avoid), as well as updated 'then' and 'now' words of wisdom from other ordinary Aussie fathers. So You’re Going To Be a Dad remains Australia’s most engaging, reassuring and down-to-earth book for new dads.

With bonus guitar track of Pete singing the baby blues and some nursery rhymes, that you just can't get in paperback!!!

2016: USA 20th Anniversary edition, published by Da Capo Press

Picture
2016: Portuguese 20th Anniversary edition, published by ARENA, with a front cover of a stork carrying a bomb. Peter had nothing to do with that design, by the way. Book title translates as "Then Father Will Be", with the tagline: "Indispensable for the parents first trip". Good to know.

Picture
Edition 1 of SYGTBAD, 1994, released in an era when a dad hired a pager so his wife could contact him when she went into labour... ah, those were the days. The flagship of the Downey armada.

Picture
Edition 2 of SYGTBAD, 2005, A tiny man with a bad haircut sits on a egg, reading a book about being a dad. Um... 'New Addition' pun! Wa heh!!

Picture
Edition 3 of SYGTBAD, 2014: The 20 year anniversary edition. Some things have changed (Have you got your bag of 20c pieces for the pay phone?) and some things have not (Dads are important).

Picture
SYGTBAD in another language. Pretty sure it's Peter's book as it has his name on it and he keeps getting cheques in a foreign currency.

Picture
Co-wrote this bad boy walk-through-the-Bible with mate Ben Shaw. Peter finds the Bible historically fascinating and spiritually amazing, but most people have little of no understanding about what it's all about. Published by Zondervan. Peter is proud of this book, but let's face it... the title is pretentious.

Picture
The Spanish version of the above, with the same pretentious title in Spanish.

Picture
The Korean version of the above. Yep, apparently Peter's a pret-tay b-i-g thing in ole Se-oul town. Can't explain why the cover is sideways though.

Picture
Part of the above series, but about the life and teachings of Jesus. Trying to help people move beyond a Sunday-Schoolish understanding of who Jesus was and what he did.

Picture
As per above, trying to help people move beyond a Sunday-Schoolish understanding of who Jesus was and what he did, in Spanish.

Picture
The prequel to SYGTBAD. Came out after, kind of like the same way Star Wars went backwards. Peter loves this book and think it was one of his best. And you have to admit the car on the front looks really cool. It's an FJ Holden, by the way.

Picture
The sequel to SYGTBAD, charting the wonderful toddler years. Many people think Peter was the guy on the cover. He is not.

Picture
How the above should have looked in the first place if the graphic designer wasn't trying to be so hipster.

Picture
Pretty sure this is a Peter Downey book in Korean, but as there are no English words anywhere in the book - including the author's name which translates aurally as Pey-eter Dor-nay - we are not sure.
