Dr Peter Downey is a best-selling Australian author and educator. He has written several books on the topics of parenting, marriage and faith which have been published internationally and translated into Spanish, Portuguese and Korean.
He is most well known for 'So You're Going to be a Dad', an informative and funny walk through the trials and joys of dadhood, written with the clueless first time father in mind. The Bulletin Magazine listed SYGTBAD as one of the Top 10 best-selling and most popular books for parents. In 2020, the fully revised 25th Anniversary edition of SYGTBAD was released in paperback and, for the first time, audiobook. Peter has written on parenting issues for a number of magazines and newspapers and he has appeared on numerous podcasts and tv programs, including The Project, The Midday Show, Mum Plus One, Great Australian Lives, Good Morning Australia, What's Cooking, That's Life, FC-TV and on radio with Geraldine Doogue, Doug Mulray, Martin and Molloy, Brian Bury, Judith Lucy, Kerri-Anne Kennerly, James Valentine, JJJ and regional ABC radio. He was featured as 'The Reluctant Dad' in an episode of ABC television's 'Australian Story'. Peter holds Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Arts, Education and Educational Leadership. His alter-ego works as a school principal in an independent school in Sydney, Australia. He is married to Meredith and together they have three children - Rachael, Georgia and Matilda. The girls are all out of nappies now and are eating solid food. Which is good, because they have all graduated from university and hold down jobs. And if you really have nothing better to do, you can start on Peter's pretentious memoirs of growing up - HERE - or listen to his various musical explorations - HERE. |
